Against
the Tide, by Stan Stokes
Against the Tide: A
Massive Tide of German armor and aerial might crashed
across Europe in May of 1941. By June the battered French
Army was falling back toward Paris, and units of the
Armee de l'Air stuck back at the invaders with great
courage in a vain attempt to save their beloved capital
city. In this painting, French-built aircraft from two
generations head for the front. The Detwoine D.520
fighter was the best French built fighter of WW II. This
is the plane flown by Pierre Le Gloan who would down 11
German aircraft during the short battle of France. The
Bloch MB 210 bomber was available in large numbers, but
was obsolete. The Breguet Bre.693 assault aircraft, on
the other hand, was very capable 1940's era aircraft.
