World
Cruisers, by Stan Stokes
World Cruisers:
In a 175 day period in 1924, the Army Air Service
completed the first successful circumnavigation of the
globe by a fixed wing aircraft's. In a journey of nearly
27,000 miles the Air Service lost two of the fur aircraft
which embarked on this epic journey. The trip began in
Seattle, and the four converted Douglas DT-2 torpedo
bombers could be configured with either floats or normal
landing gear. In this painting, the Would Cruisers land
in Alaska during the early part of the trip. (11.5 x 16) $40
