On the 4th June 1942 the US Navy won one of the most important Naval Battles of history - the Battle of Midway! To commemorate this important victory Robert Taylor portrays an SBD Dauntless dive bomber as she prepares to attack the Japanese aircraft Akagi - flagship of Admiral Nagumo. The Akagi and three other Japanese carriers were sunk, a bitter reverse which stunned the Japanese High Command and allowed the United States its first major victory of the Pacific war.

With its dive flaps open, an SBD Dauntless dives toward the Japanese carrier Akagi, which is already burning from other hits during the Battle of Midway.
