Out of Fuel and Safely Home, by Robert Taylor

Commemorating the strategic bombing campaign of the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe, Robert Taylor has painted this poignant rendition of a B-17 Flying Fortress, making a forced landing in the safety of an English corn field after a grueling 8-hour mission. A pair of P-51 Mustangs have escorted the damaged aircraft back across the North Sea, and peel off as they see their "big friend" safely back on British soil.
